Atilio Borón Warns of Implications of US Attack on Venezuela

International analyst Atilio Boron warned today that the US military aggression against Venezuela initiates a stage where “diplomacy has definitively died” and establishes the “law of the strongest” as a global norm.

During an interview, the Argentine sociologist indicated that the attack perpetrated by Washington against Caracas this Saturday confirms the collapse of the rules that governed the planet since the post-war period.

For Boron, “it is inadmissible, a situation like this cannot be normalized,” because validating an action of this type can trigger “dangerous geopolitical repercussions” beyond South America.

According to his analysis, by breaking international law, “the United States could be tacitly enabling other powers to resolve their territorial disputes by force.” “Tomorrow we cannot be surprised if Azerbaijan simply takes over Armenia, or if China finally decides to incorporate Taiwan into its national jurisdiction,” he exemplified.

Regarding the White House’s motivations, the academic dismissed the official narrative focused on drug trafficking or democracy.

“What interests Trump is not Maduro, it’s Venezuelan oil. President Maduro is an absolutely irrelevant detail for him; what is relevant is that that oil is there and the United States said we are going to take it because it is ours,” he affirmed.

In his assessments, Boron criticized the role of multilateral organizations and pointed out that the United Nations system “has collapsed,” as it lacks the capacity to stop the “northern power,” just as it previously failed in Gaza.
